A while back I started looking to become involved with network of photographers for support, learning and somewhere to 'talk shop'. I looked in to a few and decided that The International Professional Photographers' Network seemed best suited to my needs The organisation is run by top photographer Simon Revill and boasts many more fabulous photographers as members... I'm in awe of most of them to be honest!

Anyway, not long after joining in August I decided to enter the monthly competition. I entered my images on a whim, literally 2 minutes before deadline. I'd previously looked at the other entries which were, in my opinion, AMAZING so I honestly believed that I would have no hope of being placed. I went off on holiday a couple of days later and never gave it another thought. Imagine my surprise when I came home a couple of weeks later to discover that this image of mine had been given a Bronze Award. Eek!!! Excited is an understatement, I am so, so chuffed.

To some it may not seem like much but to me it's really something and I'm very grateful to all 5 judges who took the time to mark the entries. :)

It's oh so quiet...

... I really must apologise, it's been deathly quiet round here for far too long now. My excuse? Being Mummy to 3 children under 3 and running a business, spare time is sparse!

The thing is, the busier I am, the less time I seem to have to post here. I actually considered shutting the blog down and just using Facebook but I've had so many nice emails asking about the business and my family that have encouraged me to keep going with the blog. Thank you to everyone who has contacted me over the last few months.

Loads has changed since I last posted here. My twins are no longer babies and Dan is no longer a toddler, they're growing and changing every day. I can't believe how fast time has passed.

Business has been steady but the last few years have been devoted to being Mummy rather than Photographer/Business woman however, I'm back and motivated to grow my business to another level so watch this space! :)

I've got lot's of great things in the pipeline starting with a very, very exciting competition to coincide with The Royal Wedding. There's going to be great give away here... Spread the word to all Brides and Grooms!

So there we have it, it's good to be back!

... My little boy.

I love this image, I love that he's concentrating so hard and I love that his sand is missing the bucket, he kept going though and got there in the end.

I took this a couple of months ago on his 2nd birthday, he's growing up so fast.

I had the pleasure of joining Dot and Shaun and their friends and family last weekend as they tied the knot in St Mary's Parish Church, Kirkintilloch. The day was filled with laughter, fun and lots of lovely weather which is always good on a wedding day!

The couple were a joy to photograph and I was made to feel very welcome which makes my job much easier (and it always helps when the bride looks as lovely as Dot did.)

Jude II

Last week I had the pleasure of meeting and photographing Jude... And what a lovely experience it was too. You see, I've known Jude's daddy, Gordon, for a very long time; we grew up in the same village, went to the same school and even lived on the same street for a time but, I haven't seen him for almost a decade (wow!)So it was absolutely lovely to catch up with someone that I've known since childhood... I can hardly believe how much time has passed since we last spoke and that we now both have children of our own, where on earth does time go? It was also really nice to meet Gordon's lovely wife who made me feel incredibly welcome, I felt like she was my old friend by the time I left.

Jude is a beautiful baby; I loved photographing him even if he wasn't too sure about the whole experience :) We ended up with some lovely images, here's another few of my favourites... Hope you like them too.

Last week I had the pleasure of photographing this little cutie pie. She was just over 2 months old at the time of our shoot which is usually one of the hardest baby ages to photograph but 'Little Miss Layla' was an absolute dream to work with and I enjoyed every second of it.

I've been dying to post these images from a recent boudoir shoot but held them back as they were a gift for Wendys husband to be!

She and Scott were getting married last week in the beautiful French Alps and she wanted a gift to give him on the morning of the wedding... I'm sure he was over the moon, what lucky chap wouldn't be happy to marrying a girl who looks like this!

Wendy emailed me after the shoot to say that she'd really enjoyed it and had felt very relaxed throughout, I think that shines through in the images. She also said that she was really pleased with the results which, coming from her is an especially big compliment. The snow is gone, the temperature is rising and the sky is getting bluer by the day... Spring is around the corner.

Every parent loves beautiful portraits of thier kids and spring is the perfect time to take fresh and fun outdoor portraits. I am therefore very excited to announce the first Julie Vance Photography 'Outdoor Kids' Portrait Event - New for 2010!

I'm back... With a belated introduction.

Where does time go? I can hardly believe that August was the last time that I posted on here. Obviously a lot has changed for me since then... I was a mum of 1, and now there are 3!!!

Firstly, I would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody who has contacted me to ask about the babies. I've been completely humbled by the well wishes, it really is very touching to know that people have been thinking of us; Thank you.

The girls made a very smooth entrance into the world on September 19th 2009. I'm proud to say that they managed to hang on until 36 weeks 6 days which is pretty good going for twins. Ana came first at 3am followed by Sophie, 23 minutes later. Ana was (and still is) the larger of the 2 wieghing 5lbs 6 and Sophie, a teeny tiny 5lbs 3.

Although early and tiny they were both healthy and came straight to the ward with me. For this, I will be eternally grateful as my greatest fear was that they would have to go to special baby care but thankfully not and 5 days post birth we came home.

Fast forward 4 months and here we are, they've settled in and well and we can't remember what life was like without them! We're parents of 3 and our wonderful boy is a big brother... We're a family of 5 and happy as happy can be!

So that's it, the pregnancy, the birth and the newborn days are over and it's all back to normal for me! I'm available for bookings and have been shooting weddings, portraits and boudoir which I'll blog about in the coming weeks so watch this space!

And now for the good bit, photographs of my identical twin girls, Ana and Sophie.

Maternity Leave - Closed for a while.

Just a quick note to let you all know that I'm now closed for a while. I'm off on Maternity Leave for a few months as I'm due to have twins in about 3 weeks time!!

I'm sure that I've said this before but I love photographing babies... especially with no frills and fuss, all you need is a little cutie some lovely natural light and away you go!

Photographing Daniel was an absolute joy, he was one of the happiest, loveliest little boy's that I ever had the pleasure of working with... Must be the name eh?

I can't believe that we're fast approaching August 2009... Where has this year gone?

I'm happy to say that this summer has been my busiest so far with weddings, babies, engagments, families, couples, boudoir.... The list goes on. So, as you can imagine I have lot's of blogging to catch up with which I'll do over the next few weeks as I'm finishing up for some maternity leave in August for a few months but I'll tell you more about that in another post.

Anyway, in the meantime I'll start with some Communion Portraits that I took back in May. This was a new service from me this year but it went down a treat and I'll be offering it every year from here on in.

My favourite weddings are the ones where there’s lot’s of laughter, lots of love and it is clear that the couple are just meant to be together... The wedding of John and Sarah was one of those days and I enjoyed every minute of photographing both them and their lovely family and friends! I've just realised with my last post that today is the 13th of the month, Friday the 13th no less!

More importantly, around here that means that Dan is 11 months old today. What a bitter sweet feeling, I am so happy and proud of the little boy that he has become but also just a teeny bit sad that my baby is growing up so fast... He's going to be 1 long before I'm ready for it!

And... (whisper) he slept through the night last night (whisper)

Here he is, the apple of my eye, my pride and joy, my little boy, Daniel.

So, I have been exceptionally bad at posting here recently haven't I? I find myself apologising once more. I realise that there are a few of you who follow this blog regularly ( Thanks!) so I realise that it is frustrating when I fail to update it, so once again, I'm sorry.

As always, things have been pretty busy. I've recently started shooting 'Intimates Portraits' which have been going well, watch this space for some Intimates posts in the near future.

Wedding season is upon us also so I've been busy meeting with couples to finalise arrangements and discuss album requirements. Again, watch this space for some wedding posts coming soon!

And finally, I've been shooting portraits which I've been busy editing and processing orders for, there is not enough hours in the day to do everything that needs to be done is there? No complaints from me though!

2009 is going to be a busy year for me, I have lot's of bookings and will be coming into contact with a lot of new people so, I decided that it was about time that I gave my marketing materials a bit of an overhaul!

So far I've done business cards, referral cards, gift certificates, price lists... Not bad but I've still got a lot to do... A woman's work is never done eh?

Anyway, I'll be sending some goodies out as test drive, (discount cards, gift certificates etc) to clients old and new, so keep your eye on that post box... It could be you!

Let it snow!

I love snow.

I love sitting in my warm, cozy house watching the fluffy snowflakes float past my window. I love the blanket of white that it leaves behind and the way that it glistens like a sheet of tiny diamonds in the night.

I love sledging, building snowmen and throwing snowballs (but I’m not so keen on being hit)

I love the crisp crunch that it makes beneath my feet and I love to lie down to make snow angels on the ground.

I love snow.

New for 2009 Babies First Year Photography Package.

Babies first year is a special time for every parent, from the first few weeks with your precious newborn to the first smiles, first laughs and first steps… The first 12 months will fly by.

The Babies First Year Package from Julie Vance Photography is specially designed to document this precious time and capture the special memories.

The package includes:
5 Portrait Sessions
5 12” x 10” Mounted Fine Art Prints
Beautiful Bespoke Coffee Table Book containing a wide selection of images from the year
All the images as useable jpegs on a disc

The first shoot is of the Newborn Baby and should take in the first 2 weeks if possible. The session mainly focuses on the baby but Mum, Dad and any siblings can join also.

The next 3 sessions are at 3, 6 and 9 months. These sessions focus solely on the baby.

The final session will take place when baby is 1 year old. Again most of the focus will be on the baby however Mum, Dad and any siblings can join in this shoot too.

After each session you will be given the opportunity to choose your favourite image which you will receive as an Enlarged and Mounted Fine Art Print.

At the end of the year you will receive a Bespoke Coffee Table Book which will include the best images from the year and all the images from the year as useable jpegs on a disc for you to keep and reproduce at your leisure.

Smokey and Tammy.

Dogs are supposed to be Man's best friend... That's not the case for these two, Tammy is Smokey's best friends and Smokey is Tammy's. They're inseperable and like nothing more than to cuddle up in bed together. Thier 'Mum' invited me along to thier beautiful home this week to capture them together; We were hoping to get some lovely cuddly, close shots however Smokey and Tammy had other ideas, they just wanted to play and it took all of our energy to get them to sit together never mind cuddle up!

Still, we did end up with some nice images of these two lovely dogs. Thank you for inviting me along.

At last I've managed to finish editing Daniels 9 months photographs which I took a couple of weeks ago. Now we just have to sit down and decide which one (or which ones!) will be getting printed as Gallery Prints for our walls. Who knows when I'll find the time to do that!

One of the downsides of being a photographer is that personal work always takes second place to client work, or should I say 6th or 7th place when things are as busy as they've been this month.
I've been photographing people and animals, meeting with clients regarding forthcoming weddings, answering stacks of inquiries, editing photographs, organising orders, scouting locations for 'Outdoor Kids' (which I will blog about very soon), organising 2009 marketing campaigns, etc,etc.... The list goes on, Dan will probably be 2 by the time he makes it to the wall!!

Anyway, the bit you've been waiting for, the photographs! These ones are for his wonderful Daddy who misses him every day.

My first post of 2009, Happy New Year to you all!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all my clients who made 2008 a great year for my business. Also thank you to everyone who has made a booking for 2009 or beyond. I find it quite a humbling experience when someone chooses to include me in their big day, their new baby joy or invites me into their family, so once again, thank you all, I look forward to documenting your events!

One of my resolutions for 2009 is to go walking with Daniel in his pram on a more regular basis as the horrendous weather in 2008 meant that I didn't get to do it as much as I would have liked. I've been taking advantage of this weeks crisp, dry days and we've been getting out and about lots. What better way to start the year?

Christmas has been really lovely in my house this year, the addition of Daniel to our wee family has added a whole new dimension to the holiday season for Stephen and I and we have enjoyed every second of it. Once upon a time 5.30am was 'getting home from a Christmas Eve party time' this year it was 'getting up with Dan to see if Santa has been time'.

I hope you have all had a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful time with your families.

... This blog has been neglected, I apologise but I’ve but my poor wee baby has had chicken pox which means that time has been sparse. Thankfully the wee guy has really picked up, in fact, I would go as far as to say that he is completely back to normal.

I’m so glad that he’s doing better, the last 2 weeks have been horrible, nobody warns you about this bit of being a mummy, it was terrible to know that he was feeling so bad and that there was nothing that I could do about it…Apart from lot’s and lot’s off cuddles and love which I have to admit was as much for my benefit as his. Anyway, as I said, he's doing much better now and is going to his first Christmas party tomorrow... Yipee!

Things have been good business wise; I’ve booked more 2009 weddings and have another few couples to meet, there’s been portrait shoots to edit, client orders to get organise and planning new things for next year, such as ‘Outdoor Kids 2009’’ which I am very excited about. (More on that later!)

I'm pleased to say though that there has still been time to get into the Christmas spirit, the house is decorated and looking lovely (even if I do say do myself), the presents are bought (but have still to be wrapped) and I even found the time to make some Christmas Crackers with my niece Ellie on Friday which was fun, fun, fun!

I’ve also taken LOADS of personal photographs over the last couple of weeks so watch this space as I’ll be posting my favourites here.

So there we have it, at 7 and a half months old Daniel has realised that he doesn't have to rely on me to get him places, there's no stopping him now!

Cochrane Family Portrait.

I had a portrait session yesterday with the Cochrane family, Tanith, her Mummy, Sharon and Daddy, Ian. It was lovely for me to meet the family as there are just 4 days between Tanith and my little boy. Needless to say Sharon, Ian and I were swapping baby stories within minutes of my arrival.

Some of the extended family were present to witness Tanith's first professional photo session so it was all eyes on baby! She was an absolute sweetheart and coped really well with her first experience in front of the lens... A star in the making!

2009 Weddings.

Bookings for 2009 weddings have gone through the roof in the last week or so. I'm guessing that it's because we are fast approaching the end of 2008 and couples want to finalise plans before the new year arrives. I realise that the holiday season is a busy time of year for most but don't neglect your wedding planning if you're getting married in 2009... Beth and John - Ruby Wedding Anniversary

On Friday, at long last, I got to meet Beth and John who have recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. Their son Douglas booked this shoot as a gift to them way back in August and I think that we all beginning to worry that the session would never happen; Finally, last week we managed to be in the same place at the same time... Hurray!!!

It was lovely to meet Beth in person as I feel like I've known her for ages because of all the telephone conversations that we've had. It was just as nice to meet John and hear all about their family. They are such a nice couple and it was a pleasure to photograph them together. John is a character, he's got a great sense of humour and clearly still makes Beth laugh after all these years together. I really wanted to convey that in my photographs, I hope that I've succeeded.

Kate and Innes - Engaged.

Kate and Innes are getting married and I am going to have the pleasure of photographing their big day!

On Saturday the rain stayed off long enough for us to be able to do the pre-wedding engagement photographs at Kelvingrove Art Galleries. We've previously had to cancel the shoot due to terrible weather and Friday nights rain had both me and Kate thinking that we were going to have to cancel again but, thankfully the elements were on our side and Saturday was dry and bright, an almost perfect autumn day. Kate and Innes were great and did a fantastic job of hiding just how cold they were, thanks guys!

Sometimes as a photographer you just 'click' with the couple, this for me, is one of this times, they are absolutely lovely.

Kate is stunning and Innes isn't half bad himself. I can't wait to photograph them at the wedding in May... Hopefully the wind and rain will have stopped by then!

Thomas likes to chat, he likes to run, play and bounce on the bed. He doesn't like to sit still and pose to have his photograph taken so, you end up with shots like these.

I've said it before but these are my absolute favourite style of shots for kids. Just let them do their thing and be there to capture it. These 3 simple images show a little bit of Thomas' personality... One day, when he's a big boy and his face isn't quite so cheeky it'll be great to look back on these and remember just how adorably cute he was when he was nearly 2.

The last time I photographed Rachael was for part of a larger family shoot. Today she came back to be the star of the show, this afternoon was all about Rachael.

I've said it before but this little girl has the most beautiful sparkly blue eyes, they are an absolute joy to photograph. She also has a lovely, cheeky little smile but today she mostly saved it for when the camera was pointed in the other direction (or for her Grandad who was watching from the wings!)

Anyway, I still managed to get some gorgeous shots of this lovely little girl, I hope her mummy and daddy are pleased with the images, it was my pleasure to take them.

Today was a special day for Daniel, he attended his first Halloween party.

He was totally oblivious to what was going on around him and was not in the slightest bit interested in party food, party games or his party outfit but never mind, his mummy enjoyed it... There's plenty of time for him to become a party boy yet!!

The weather has been sooo bad here recently. Usually I can put up with a little rain but it's been awful, I've had to rearrange various location shoots because of it, I really don't like rearranging, I feel as if I'm letting people down but I suppose it can't be helped.

So in the coming weeks I've got location shoots in Paisley, Byres Road and Kelvingrove so there's busy times ahead. Please, please, please stay dry.

Anyway, here's some random shots to keep you going all of which were taken in the aforementioned locations. Some of them are just for fun and others will be produced as prints for sale in the near future... Watch this space!

I love photographing children, they're my favourite subject and I love nothing more than photographing them as they change over the days, months and years. This gorgeous little newborn resting on her mummy's shoulder is Rachael whom I photographed back in January when she was a teeny tiny few weeks old. I was back to photograph her again recently...

...And this is Rachael now, doesn't time fly? She is adorable such a petite little lady with the most beautiful blue eyes that you will ever see.

Business has been busy, busy, busy since I came home from America. New enquiries are coming in every day and next years wedding dates are booking up fast. The diary for this week and next is jam pack with client consultations, client viewing sessions, engagement shoots and supplier meetings which means that my blogs will probably be short... So for now, here's more from the beach.

It doesn't seem like over two weeks since I last posted here but it must be because my trip to America is over and I'm home again, missing the sunshine already.

I took a whole stack of personal photographs which I will be posting here if I ever get around to sorting them all out. I have a terrible habit of downloading my personal shots to the laptop and then never doing anything with them although this time will be different (I say that all the time!)

Saturday was spent with 5 of my favourite people in the world, my husband, sister, Ellie, Joe and Daniel.

We had some lunch at the village pub and then went for a wander along to the park. I, of course. had my camera with me to document the occassion... Just as well as apparently it was the best day of Ellie's life (her words) so I'm sure she'll want some photographs to remember it by. I took loads, here are some of my faves!

I spent yesterday afternoon photographing Olivia. At just under 2 she has no interest in having her picture taken, we just let her 'do her thing' and I was there to capture it.

I love this kind of shoot with children; it's absolutely the best way to capture thier personalities. As a mother myself I know that I am going to want to remember my little boy exactly how he is and not all spruced up for a formal studio shot. I hope that yesterday's images have captured the essence of Olivia, a beautiful little girl!

Ellie started school this week, I can't believe she's that age already, time really does fly. She looked so small in her blazer and her school bag was nearly bigger than she is... It brought a lump to her Auntie JuJu's throat, I am so proud of this wee girl.

I had a really nice day yesterday. Had my hair cut and then spent the afternoon with my Mum, sister and our 3 little kiddies. We did some gardening and then went for a lovely long walk in to the village.

These shots were taken the other day when he sat in his Bumbo seat for the very first time, the expression on his face speaks for itself, totally disinterested until he found his toes.
